However, he has been a revelation for the Rossoneri. Playing every minute where possible, the Croatian has been a strong heartbeat for the midfielder – and just the team generally – and Massimiliano Allegri is near-reliant on him.
Will he stay or go?
However, there is a worry that he could depart after the World Cup, even if he does have the option of an extra year in his deal.
Offers are already there from abroad, but the Diavolo still have some hope that he can remain at San Siro for next season at least. Corriere della Sera journalist Monica Colombo spoke on the Milan Vibes YouTube channel, and MilanNews relayed her words.
“Modric is a constant surprise, not only for his class, but also for his humility, for the plays he made last night, helping the team in moments of difficulty, dropping back and helping in the back lines. That’s yet another sign of what an absolute champion this player is.
“If he’s healthy, he’ll stay for another year… If Milan qualify for the Champions League, I don’t see why he shouldn’t stay and take charge of the team in Europe as well.
“However, in a situation like this, at 41 years old and older, I find it harder to see him as a permanent starter.”
My guess is he’ll retire after the world cup.

LOL. You clearly haven’t read any of his interviews. The guy lives for football. He’s obsessed with staying fit so he can still enjoy the game he clearly loves. He’s not quitting until his body says no. And look at him now… He runs and battles more than Leao, Nkunku & RLC combined!
I agree. It would make no sense to play another random season after reaching that milestone….unless he suddenly starts thinking he can make Croatia’s Euro squad at 43. Then he might do one more season at Milan, then maybe his final season pre-Euros at Dynamo Zagreb.
