Sky journalist reacts to Pioli’s XI choices for Lecce clash: “Never seen like this”

By Isak Möller -

AC Milan will take on Lecce at San Siro tomorrow and Stefano Pioli is expected to make some changes to the starting XI. The most notable one, as highlighted by a journalist, concerns the attacking trio.

Milan are currently on a six-game winning streak and will be looking to extend that tomorrow. With Juventus now six points behind, the Rossoneri have their eyes set on ruining Inter’s premature Scudetto party, given that 14 points separating the sides as things stand.

Speaking live on Sky Italia earlier today, as cited by Radio Rossonera, Manuele Baiocchini shared his thoughts on the probable starting XI for the game. As Ruben Loftus-Cheek is suspended, Christian Pulisic is set to start in the No.10 role instead, with Samuel Chukwueze on the right.

“It will be a very attacking-minded Milan, perhaps never seen like this before. Loftus-Cheek is suspended. In the usual 4-2-3-1, the Englishman will be replaced by Christian Pulisic in the attacking trio, with Chukwueze confirmed on the right and Leao on the left. Giroud will be up front. In midfield, in front of the defence, there will be Adli and Reijnders,” he stated.

Milan will certainly lack a lot of physicality – which is important in the defensive phase – without both Ismael Bennacer and Loftus-Cheek. Although the goal is always to have a strong game on both ends of the pitch, the feeling is that the key will be to outscore Lecce tomorrow.

  1. I hope this is true because this would be the right decision instead of moving Reinjders or Musah in the AM position.

Pulisic plays this role all the time for the US National team and will Chukwueze on the right this will be good for Pioli to see the movement between the front 3.

    1. As an American who watches every national team match, I don’t know where this idea that Pulisic plays the 10 comes from. He has played there maybe 20 minutes in the past five years, always when we need a goal in the final minutes. Pulisic always plays left wing.
Not saying he can’t or wouldn’t be effective, but his experience there is not as substantial as some people seem to think. Hope this helps!

      1. Bingo
I have no idea either. Anytime I see him play for NT he plays LW. He gets.movef around but even in the NT his best position is still RW

      2. Yes, he played the 10 some when the US didn’t qualify for Russia World Cup. BUT Pulisic did play in the double 10 for Chelsea during their CL run and that’s where people are getting the idea that he can play as a 10. I personally don’t like seeing him play different positions but at least its not RWB like TT had him playing before he got the sack. I understand with Leao already solidifying the LW Pulisic needs to play RW but I hope this does not become a trend.

      3. With respect. He played in middle and excelled multiple times whether in scoring or in assist. It’s a fact if you do some work in his stars pal

  2. The problem is that with this formation, even if we are up 3-0, we cannot stop attacking since this formation wouldn’t be able to defend properly. We don’t have a Mandzukic to add physicality. I still think it’s worth to do as an experiment to see how our team plays in this type of game

I have a feeling based on the Lecce-Roma game, that their players have a lot of stamina so a fast-paced game with a lot of running back and forth is in their alley.

It would definitely be a fun game for a neutral viewer, but not sure how it will be for the fans of both teams and there might be red cards. Lecce have nothing to lose on this

Zeman would approve this formation :D.

  3. If this works the next experiment is RLC at the 9. Esp if Chuk has arrived.

To think we still have Musah, Ok4 and Jovic to come off the bench.

    Milan 4 – 1

    Puli two assist
    Giroud a brace.
Leao a goal and an assist
    OK4 a goal
Chuk looks like be belongs AC Milan.
