Journalist sends warning to Leao over Milan future: “He will have to get serious”

By Isak Möller -

Rafael Leao’s first season at AC Milan perhaps hasn’t been what he hoped for, failing to impress both Marco Giampaolo and Stefano Pioli. Of course, given the investment made, he will have to pick himself up.

In 22 appearances (ten from start), he has only been able to rack up two goals and two assists, not living up to the expectations. Milan paid €23m to Lille for the Portuguese youngster and it’s clear that they believe in the player.

However, as warned by Sky Italia journalist Peppe Di Stefano (via MilanNews.it), Leao will have to start taking it seriously. Should he fail to do so, then his Milan adventure could end earlier than expected.

“It hasn’t been a great season for Leao, only two goals, and Milan made a fairly substantial investment from an economic point of view. He’s still very young, he got the trust of both Giampaolo and Pioli, but then he lost it.

“Now he will have to get serious because Milan can’t risk making a bad investment like this,” he concluded.

Once the season is back underway (if it will be resumed), it remains to be seen if Leao will be given a ‘second chance’ by Pioli. After all, the Rossoneri might have to get used to life without Zlatan Ibrahimovic.
