Jovic admits ‘2024 has started great’ for him after his winning goal against Frosinone

AC Milan striker Luka Jovic has admitted that 2024 has started really well for him, with his winning goal against Frosinone being the latest to bring him joy.

The Serbian striker spoke to Milan TV (via Milan News) after the victory and he was understandably thrilled that he found another Rossoneri goal and was able to deliver the three points.

Jovic had been thrown on by Stefano Pioli when Milan were drawing 2-2 with Frosinone, and it would have been a disappointing result given the Rossoneri took the lead after just 15 minutes. Jovic scored almost immediately and made it 3-2 with less than 10 minutes to play.

He now has eight goals and assists in the last nine games, only three of which he has started.

Talking about what the goal means to him, Jovic said: “I’m playing well and I’m happy about it, I always work hard to be ready, I’m especially proud of the victory. 2024 has started off great for me, I want to continue like this, I’m proud of tonight’s victory, we’re strong.”

Milan’s next match comes against Napoli, so it will almost certainly be an even tougher test. Jovic previewed the game by saying: “It will be a difficult match but we are ready to face anyone because we are in a good period and we are a big family.”

Jovic did not start life at Milan very well as he was struggling to take his opportunities off the bench, and the pressure is on given he only has a one-year contract.

His recent form will have given Milan food for thought when it comes to his future at the club.

  1. Jovic should be signed for a new contract, even if just as a super sub. We need depth in the position and he’s proven himself many times now he can come in late and make a difference.

  2. Nothing special to stand out from his game, but when we need, it he’s always in the right place at the right time ! That’s exactly what makes the striker quality.

  3. Some people are calling for him to start and that’s fine, I get it. But i really think he’s found his role as an impact sub. When he comes in, the game changes and the defence has to deal with a whole other issue…an in-the-box poacher. And most times they can’t handle it. I’d say let him be our Solskjaer

    1. Well said. Jovic is good when the space opens up toward the end of the game as the defense tires. It’s nice to have a reliable deputy to giroud

  4. I don’t agree with others who think he should just be a sub. I think he should actually start games. The guy is a great all around player and striker. And having an instinct for goal is what we all need.

  5. If Pioli had put total trust in him, and given him the confidence, he would have even scored more, he is technical and tactically intelligent, he is good with both feet and his head, and has an incredible physique, playing him more would only enhance his performance and being out the best in him.

    1. Pioli has put trust in him. He was playing for weeks on end without producing anything before he scored. He missed absolute sitters.

I was wondering why in hell Pioli kept putting him on. But I’m glad he kept giving confidence in the end.
