Kaka: “The derby? Inter have strong players, but Milan can win”

AC Milan legend Ricardo Kaka has stressed the important of winning the derby if the Rossoneri are to achieve success this season.

The two neighbours meet at San Siro on Saturday evening for what promises to be yet another exciting instalment of one of football’s most historic and storied rivalries.

Both clubs have started the season well, with the Rossoneri having taken six points out of nine thanks to wins against Brescia and Hellas Verona, which helped cancel out a defeat in the opening game against Udinese.

They do however sit three points behind the Nerazzurri, who under Antonio Conte have beaten Lecce, Cagliari and Udinese to start the campaign with nine points out of nine.

The excitement for the derby is building with a number of special guests expected, and you can read the latest predicted line-ups from La Gazzetta dello Sport here.

Kaka spoke to the microphones of media outlet DAZN to discuss the importance of this weekend’s game.

“It’s very important for Milan because it’s the first derby of the year, it’s Milan-Inter, it’s at home and it would be nice to win it,” he said, as per il Milanista.

“Inter have strong players, but I think Milan can win and it would be important for the championship race: if they are aiming for the title, winning the derby is fundamental.”

Milan replaced Gennaro Gattuso with Marco Giampaolo as head coach this summer, and Kaka is reserving judgement.

“I believe that until now he is not doing badly; if I’m not mistaken, only three days passed and they seemed positive. We’ll see.”
