GdS: Kalulu will keep his place against Empoli – Milan are working to secure him

By Oliver Fisher -

Pierre Kalulu has firmly stepped up to the plate in the absence of some key performers and AC Milan are aware how important he is, a report claims.

La Gazzetta dello Sport (via MilanNews) recalls how during the winter transfer market the Rossoneri management looked for a new centre-back to replace the injured Simon Kjaer, but in the end no one arrived. That meant that Kalulu was bumped up in the hierarchy, and so far he has done nothing but impress.

A good example was last Sunday against Napoli when he helped keep Victor Osimhen quiet alongside Fikayo Tomori, and the Frenchman will start in the centre of defence also in tomorrow night’s match against Empoli.

Alessio Romagnoli has recovered from the muscle problem remedied in the Coppa Italia semi-final first leg against Inter, but he will start from the bench in order just to have a bit more time to recover, meaning Kalulu will pair up with Tomori again.

In the meantime, work has begun to extend Kalulu’s current deal, which is expiring in 2025. Paolo Maldini and Ricky Massara have already had talks with his agent to talk about a renewal, and they plan to offer him a pay rise to keep any interested clubs at bay.
