Kalulu assures he is ‘very happy’ at Milan and gives thoughts on ‘Pierino’ nickname

AC Milan defender Pierre Kalulu has reflected on what has been a great patch of form, revealing that it is the product of months of hard work.

The rise of Kalulu this season has been enjoyable to watch for Milan’s coaching staff and management as well as fans of the club. Watching him play like a centre-back well beyond his years almost makes you forget that he signed from Lyon in 2020 without a senior appearance to his name.

The 21-year-old got the nod to start alongside Fikayo Tomori in the recent 1-0 win over Napoli, as the pair showed excellent physicality, athleticism and attention to keep one of the league’s trickiest customers at bay in Victor Osmihen.

Kalulu spoke to SportMediaset in view of Saturday night’s game against Empoli at San Siro, where he may well get another start alongside Tomori even though Alessio Romagnoli is now back from his injury. His comments have been relayed by MilanNews.

On his good performances: “The crowd are appreciating my performances but the team knows that I have been working hard for months to be at this level.”

On his future and on the fans: “They are always affectionate and it is something that gives you something more. I feel good at Milan, I play more and I can prove my worth. I’m very happy.”

On the Scudetto: “We think game by game and on Saturday there is Empoli, we want to win. After the break, let’s see if we are close or not and where we can get.”

On the nickname ‘Pierino’: “This always makes my family laugh, but I have to ask my mother if she likes it.”
