CM: Only Kessie remains from 2017 spree – latest on his future amid Spurs and PSG interest

By Oliver Fisher -

The summer of 2017 generated a lot of excitement among AC Milan fans as Marco Fassone and Massimiliano Mirabelli embarked on a lively transfer market under Yonghong Li’s ownership, but now only Franck Kessie remains.

Calciomercato.com recalls how the Rossoneri recruited 11 players that summer: Leonardo Bonucci, Mateo Musacchio, Ricardo Rodriguez, Lucas Biglia, Fabio Borini, Nikola Kalinic, André Silva, Antonio Donnarumma, Hakan Calhanoglu, Andrea Conti and Franck Kessie.

With Conti having been sold outright to Sampdoria in the past few hours, 10 out of the 11 on that list have left the club four and a half years after arriving, while Kessie – who was signed from Atalanta – is the only survivor.

Despite this, he could soon become the 11th name crossed off that list because the risk of a farewell at the end of the season is increasingly concrete. There have been no substantial steps forward in the negotiations for the renewal of his contract, because even though the Ivorian would gladly stay at Milan on his own economic terms the club believe they have already put forward a fitting offer considering the sustainability they strive for.

The matter is not close yet but in the meantime Tottenham and PSG are really sensing the possibility of a free transfer ahead of next summer, while Kessie will be called upon to decide: to remain the last man standing or join the 10 fellow summer 2017 recruits in leaving.
