CM: Kessie disappoints against Liverpool – uncertainty over future weighs mentally as fans turn

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan have found out the hard way that errors in the Champions League generally do not go unpunished, and Franck Kessie has become the subject of criticism.

Stefano Pioli’s young and inexperienced Milan side learned their lesson and paid their price for a naive and sloppy performance against Liverpool which ended their European campaign for 2021-22, having already been punished for inattention during games at Anfield, against Atletico Madrid at home and Porto away.

Calciomercato.com writes that Franck Kessie has ‘ended up in the dock’ of Milan fans who have been critical of the Ivorian on social media and at the stadium, mainly because he was the protagonist of a series of errors that affected the final result.

He was easily beaten by Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain whose shot led to Salah’s equalising goal, then he missed two huge scoring chances that could have given some hope in the final stages. The report remarks how Kessie is not as calm and dominant as he was last season and the problem appears to be mental, because from a physical point of view the 24-year-old has no issues.

The speculation relating to the renewal of his contract weighs heavily in the punishing judgments of the fans, and it still seems to be far away. Now it’s up to the player to give the rights answers and to potentially end his time with the Rossoneri in the right way.

  1. Kessie is already thinking about his next club.He is a different player from.the beast we saw last year. I am.npt surprised by his poor form anymore. His mind already left.

  2. So far he’s only really good in small irrelevant matches. As soon as stakes go up and pressure builds he falls apart. Makes mistakes, gets red cards, causes penalties, or misses them.

Someone asking for 676786879 million per second should be thriving under pressure.
