Kessie says Meite will give Milan ‘a big hand’ and shrugs off Scudetto taboo

Franck Kessie has been one of the most important players for Milan this season, playing all the games but one in the league (suspension vs. Lazio). The president, as he’s also called, has been very consistent.

As Zlatan Ibrahimovic missed quite a few penalties at the start of the season, the Ivorian has also got the penalty duties back and has scored 4/5 this term. Above all, though, he has been a dominating figure in the centre of the pitch.

In an interview with Il Giornale, as cited by MilanLive, Kessie was asked about the Rossoneri’s recent success and the secret behind it. He made it clear that there isn’t really one, praising manager Stefano Pioli for his work.

“There isn’t a real secret to be revealed, but a work plan to tell. Pioli took us aside and started talking, explaining what he wanted from us. The group got to work with their ideas and now we continue to do so day after day,” he began.

Milan are currently at the top of the Serie A standings with 40 points after 17 games, three points ahead of their city rivals Inter. However, there hasn’t been much talk about the Scudetto, and Kessie was asked about this taboo.

“And why should it be? We have a mantra that Mr. Pioli repeats to us every day: let’s think about one game at a time. Now there is Cagliari, the rest does not count. We are Milan, history speaks for us. And a club like Milan cannot feel uncomfortable talking about the Scudetto,” he continued.

Last night, Milan announced the signing of Soualiho Meite on an initial six-month loan deal, which also included a buy-out option. Kessie was asked about the signing and he stated that the Frenchman will give them a big hand.

“I’d tell him: come to Milanello, look at how we train, watch and learn quickly because we need help. We will have a match every 3 days and we will need everyone to get to the end of the season and the three commitments that await us. He will give us a big hand,” he concluded.
