Away success and a first since 1968: All the key stats from Milan’s win against Cagliari

By Isak Möller -

AC Milan came away with all three points in the game against Cagliari last night and it was their third consecutive 1-0 win. As a result, they remain at the top of the Serie A standings.

Ismael Bennacer was the big hero with a wonderful volley effort just outside the box, leaving the goalkeeper with absolutely no chance. In the last few games, he has been a key player and he certainly showed it yesterday.

There are several positives to take from the game and some are evident with the help of stats and facts. For example, the Rossoneri have the best away record along with Man City this season, from the official website.

➤ AC Milan have scored at least one goal in 15 consecutive matches on the road in a single top-flight season for only the second time in their history – also doing so back in 1967/68 in Serie A.

➤ AC Milan have won eleven away games so far, a joint-high in Europe’s Top-5 leagues in 2021/22 alongside Manchester City.

➤ AC Milan are the side to have scored the most goals from outside the box in Europe’s Top-5 leagues this season (11).

➤ AC Milan have won 27 league games against Cagliari in the 2000s, more than against any other side in the top flight in this period.

➤ AC Milan are unbeaten in each of their last eight games in Serie A (W5 D3), with only Juventus (15) on a longer on-going streak amongst sides currently in the competition.

➤ For the first time in a single Serie A season, Ismaël Bennacer has scored more than once – his two goals this term have both come away from home.

➤ In the lead-up to Ismaël Bennacer’s goal, there were 12 consecutive passes by AC Milan players.
