Cisse after Cutrone, talisman Rabiot: All the key stats from Torino 1-2 AC Milan

AC Milan kicked off the new Serie A campaign with an important three points away from home against Torino on Sunday night.

After a goalless first half which Milan edged, two quickfire goals by Alphadjo Cissè and Adrien Rabiot just after the hour mark gave Ruben Amorim the gift of a win in his first game in charge of the Rossoneri.

The hosts pulled one back through Adams in stoppage time, but it was not enough to mount a dramatic comeback.

In control 

The general stats show that Milan were probably good value for the three points. They had 59% of the ball, 1.61 Expected Goals to Torino’s 1.01, 19 total shots to eight, four shots on target to one, and double the amount of corners.

What is interesting though is that the Granata had two big chances to the Diavolo’s one. Given the balance of play in the final 15 minutes – which Amorim admitted was not good – Milan ran the risk of a late comeback.

A whole host of firsts

Milan had not won their Serie A season opener since August 2023 (a 2-0 victory against Bologna).

Alphadjo Cissè is the youngest Italian player (19 years, 305 days) to score for Milan in Serie A since Patrick Cutrone (19 years, 236 days) did so against Cagliari on 27 August 2017.

Before Cissè, the last Italian player to score on his first Serie A start for Milan was Daniel Maldini, against Spezia on 25 September 2021.

Adrien Rabiot has scored in his first match of the season across the top five European leagues for the fourth time; the last one was in August 2023 with Juventus against Udinese.

The Frenchman has both scored and provided an assist in a single Serie A match for the fourth time – all four in away games: against Torino, Bologna, Monza, and Sassuolo.

Samuel Chukwueze has been involved in three goals (all assists) in his last four Serie A matches, equalling his tally from his previous 25 appearances in the top flight.
