Kjaer admits identity crisis at Milan: “We must apologise to the fans”

By Isak Möller -

Just like many of his teammates, Simon Kjaer had a tough evening in AC Milan’s 3-0 loss against Inter in the Supercoppa Italiana. Speaking to the media afterwards, he immediately apologised to the fans.

The Rossoneri headed into the game with hopes of bouncing back from a tough start to 2023, with three consecutive games without a win. However, instead they sank even deeper and lost as questionable defending resulted in three conceded goals.

Kjaer had a tough evening and didn’t hide the inadequacy in his interview with MilanTV after the game, as cited by MilanNews. He admitted that Milan must take a hard look at themselves and apologise to the fans.

First thoughts…

“We started badly, then it became difficult. They are good at what they do, but tonight we didn’t put the performance down as deserved. We have to look back, and apologise to the fans. We have to analyze this game and then start over, there’s no time to settle down but this game hurts.”

On the many youngsters…

“The young players narrative is over. We have to grow up and take responsibility, we haven’t put our identity and we have to learn. It was a tough evening, especially mentally, but these moments we have to find our identity,” he stated.

Milan will take on Lazio in their next game and it will be played on Tuesday next week. In other words, they have many days to work on their weaknesses and, frankly, it’s a must-win for them unlike anything we have seen for a long time.

  1. This crisis was bound to happen, for all of Pioli’s intelligence, he has a very fatal flaw, he lacks either the patience to work with players he does not like, or players he seems to think are not suited to his game, and he still persists in using either the same players even if they do not deliver, and he still persists in not changing formations and game system, he knew very well the team was not playing well, he should have tried a formation and line up with greater security, he needs to bring in a midfielder into the midfield that’s strong and who will provide defensive cover, even the management needs to act, Messias Florenzi, Ibra, Kjaer need to be cut, they are injury prone, and not young anymore, starting Kjaer was a huge mistake, he is slow, injury prone and a general liability to the team ..

    1. “starting Kjaer was a huge mistake, he is slow, injury prone and a general liability to the team ..”

The words “Injury prone” should be banned from this site due to misuse. Anyone someone here doesn’t like a player (s)he comes up with the two magic words to dis the player.

If Kjaer is THAT bad, how come Milan had conceived only once with him on the pitch before last night and constantly leak in defense with Tomori & Kalulu making mistakes every day.

      1. So… Everyone keeps saying “Kjaer is slow”. How much has Kalulu’s & Tomori’s pace helped them recently? Look at the Torino’s winning goal. Look at Lautaro’s goal yesterday. Yeah, pace is all a CB needs, eh? LOL.

Anyone who has ever played the game knows you can make up the lack of space with other qualities.

  2. “We have to grow up and take responsibility, we haven’t put our identity and we have to learn. It was a tough evening, especially mentally, but these moments we have to find our identity,” he stated.”

This. Kjaer knows what he’s talking about.
