Kjaer’s agent confirms January interest and gives update on Milan future

A number of different clubs have been linked with a move for Simon Kjaer as his contract runs out in a few months, and now his agent has spoken out about his client’s future.

Kjaer joined Milan during the 2019-20 season and he quickly established himself as one of the most important members of Stefano Pioli’s team, as well as a pillar of a resurgence that would result in winning the Scudetto in 2021-22.

Now the Dane is about to turn 35, and there are some doubts regarding his future at Milan because his deal only has a few months left to run on it and there are no rumours about an imminent extension.

According to Bold in Denmark, teams like Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain expressed an interest in the veteran defender in the January window which shows that his name still carries a lot of wright.

Mikkel Beck, who is Kjær’s agent, did not want to go into detail about the clubs specifically and how far along they got, but he painted a picture regarding how things are.

“I will not comment on the specific club names. But Simon is, has always been and will always be interesting in every transfer window in international football, and it is true that in January there was interest from several even very large European clubs. That much I can say,” he said.

“But Simon already plays in a very big club, and he was not at all interested in having to leave AC Milan in the middle of another exciting season.”

Bold cite German sources who claim that Thomas Tuchel had Kjaer on his list as he was looking for a short-term solution because there were injuries in the centre-back department, but Eric Dier joined from Spurs instead.

There have also been reports in the Turkish media that the Denmark captain was close to moving back to Fenerbahce.

“It is true that Fenerbahce asked about Simon. He was a huge star at that club and they still have a dream to get him back,” Beck said.

“But he was not at all close to a change, because in the middle of an exciting season with Milan, it was not the right time for Simon to just consider it.

“Simon is 100 percent focused on AC Milan, where he is a very important player. He has been in great form over the past few months since returning from injury in December. And in that time, Milan with him in the team have had excellent results.

“We haven’t spoken to the club yet about next season. We do that when the time is right for both parties. Simon basically wants to extend, but otherwise he is in a perfect situation as a free transfer in the summer after the Euros with Denmark.”
