Kjaer picks up ‘flexor problem’ during Milan’s draw against Sassuolo

By Oliver Fisher -

It seems as though Simon Kjaer has picked up yet another problem as he was replaced during AC Milan’s 3-3 draw with Sassuolo this afternoon.

Pioli decided to make multiple changes in response to Sassuolo going 3-1 up early in the second half with Olivier Giroud, Tijjani Reijnders and Matteo Gabbia coming on for Loftus-Cheek, Musah and Kjaer.

However, as DAZN (via MilanNews) point out, the change might have been more than just a tactical one given that it also marked the transition to a pure 4-2-4 system that ultimately yielded two goals.

Kjaer headed to the dressing room without staying to watch the game on the bench, which certainly fuels the idea that he suffered an injury.

After the game, Stefano Pioli was asked about how the team are in terms of their condition after what was another physically demanding game in the heat.

“We’re fine. Leao and Theo want to play, the more they play the better they feel. We’re coming into Thursday well. Unfortunately, Kjaer had a flexor problem. There’s time to recover.”

With Thursday’s second leg against Roma on the horizon, Pioli will hope that it is nothing serious especially given that Pierre Kalulu is out and Malick Thiaw will be suspended for the derby.

  1. He’s been a good player historically and seems like a strong presence in the dressing room. But at this point he is a liability on the field. The club would be better off playing youth team CBs when rotation is needed.
