Kjaer puzzled after Milan’s loss against Spezia: “It’s hard to explain”

AC Milan failed to bounce back after the horrendous display against Inter, putting in yet another one as they lost 2-0 to Spezia. Simon Kjaer, one of the culprits, spoke to the media afterwards.

Kjaer played from the first minute due to the suspension of Malick Thiaw, and the Dane struggled to impose himself throughout the entire game. On Spezia’s first goal, he completely mistimed the ball with the zonal-marking strategy.

Speaking to DAZN, as cited by MilanNews, Kjaer admitted that Milan simply didn’t do enough out on the pitch this evening. He also made it clear that they must put this loss behind them, given the big game on Tuesday.

On the game…

“Tonight we didn’t do enough. Now we have Tuesday’s match. Today was fundamental, but there’s another war on Tuesday.”

One could have seen this coming…

“If I knew how to solve the problem, we’d be in another position. We have had so many difficulties in these games. It’s hard to explain why. Today we weren’t enough. We need to improve. In the first half, we had our moments, but we have to be more dominant, we are Milan. Then they scored from a corner. But we had to finish it sooner.”

Did the first leg vs. Inter affect you today?

“In our line of work, we need to be able to erase and move forward. We have to work, there is no other possibility.”

On the confrontation with Curva Sud…

“Since we won the league, our fans have surprised me a lot with positive things. They have always been close to us. I also remember Milan many years ago and they have always been there. They have always been really close to the team.”

Milan will face Inter in three days and they have a mountain to climb, currently down 2-0 on aggregate. At the very least, they will have to avoid another humiliating game, but that’s easier said than done these days.
