Simon Kjaer has stressed that the Scudetto is the target for AC Milan, and revealed that he is actually happier to face tougher opponents in the Champions League.
While Kjaer might not be getting starts at club level, he remains the captain and the leader of his national team as he played all 90 minutes for Denmark last night during their 4-0 trouncing of San Marino.
It seems at the moment as though the 34-year-old is behind Fikayo Tomori, Malick Thiaw and Pierre Kalulu in the centre-back pecking order, with the latter picked to replace the former who is suspended for the upcoming derby against Inter.
Nevertheless, a player of Kjaer’s experience will absolutely have the chance to show his qualities and leadership between now and the season end.
Kjaer spoke to reporters after Denmark’s comprehensive win against San Marino last night and he was asked about how things are going at club level, with his comments relayed by MilanNews.
How are things at Milan?
“This year we have a team, but also last year, with excellent players. We’ve been together for three years where we’ve gotten better and can find new ways to do things.
“Continuity in football is good, it’s good for you. We have taken excellent players, we have two in each position and we hope for the best this year. We have a great team.”
Milan got a really tough Champions League group…
“Yes, I prefer it that way. Playing against the strong ones, in the Champions League you want to meet the strongest.”
Who will get through, besides Milan?
“It’s an open group, it depends on the details in each match. Every match has a 50/50, then it always depends on the moment and the day. But we’ll get through for sure (laughs) and then for me it doesn’t matter who gets through.”
Will it be a battle between Milan and Inter for the Scudetto?
“It’s early. However, we want to do our best to try and fight for the Scudetto this year. It’s an objective and it must always be like this when you are Milan.”
