Kostic’s former youth coach offers insight into his profile: “Give him time, he’ll grow”

AC Milan signed Andrej Kostic in the international break and there has been little seen of him, given he plays outside of the top European leagues.

It is difficult to assess the signing of Kostic. A promising youngster who has scored regularly in the Serbian Super Liga is one thing, but past that, there is little known about what player he can grow into. Though, the references are glowing.

As well as this, the fact that Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Igli Tare campaigned for his signing says a lot. As two former strikers, they know what it takes and if they see the signs of talent there already, who knows.

Kostic’s former coach speaks

Given there are only brief highlight packages available, Gazzetta dello Sport reached out to his former coach to speak about the youngster’s playing style and his temperament. The words of Ivan Brnovic, his coach at Buducnost, have been relayed by MilanNews.

“Andrej is a wonderful guy, reserved, modest, and well-mannered. On the pitch, he has a great work ethic, he performs every exercise with maximum intensity, and he’s eager to improve. He has great speed and strength, and he attacks spaces well in depth.

“If he has the ball at his feet when he’s facing goal, don’t expect an assist, but expect the ball to go in within 2-3 seconds. He still needs to work a lot when he’s away from goal, especially on the wall and in playing with his teammates, as well as improving his technique.

“I think AC Milan will focus on these aspects above all; give him time and he’ll grow. The way he plays reminds me of Pippo Inzaghi, only more physically structured. He’s always on the edge of offside and does everything he can to score.

“So far, he’s scored mostly as a substitute, so from that perspective, he reminds me especially of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.”
