Kovacic complimentary of Milan: “A great opponent, with a great history”

By Oliver Fisher -

Chelsea midfielder Mateo Kovacic believes that AC Milan represent a ‘great opponent’ against which he and his team-mates can test themselves.

This is a game that might have a bit more feeling for Kovacic in a group that certainly will given that he began his professional career with Dinamo Zagreb at the age of 16, winning two consecutive league titles before joining Inter in 2013.

That means he has faced off against Milan with the Rossoneri as an enemy before but a lot has changed since then. The Croatian midfielder went to Real Madrid, where he won the 2015–16, 2016–17 and 2017–18 Champions Leagues and then joined Chelsea on one-year loan in 2018, signing permanently for the London club at the end of the season.

Kovacic gave an interview to the official media channels of Chelsea on the eve of the match against the Rossoneri, with his comments relayed by MilanNews.

“Milan? A great opponent, with a great history behind them in the Champions League. It won’t be easy also because we haven’t done well in the Champions League so far: that’s why it’s an important match for us tomorrow and we want the three points,” he said.
