AC Milan seemed set to hire Markus Krösche as their new head of football, and some background on his contractual terms has emerged.
Before defining the new management structure, owner Gerry Cardinale wanted an external hire. Ralf Rangnick was spoken to but rejected the role, while Krösche then appeared almost certain to arrive before talks suddenly halted.

In the end, internal promotions won out. Hendrik Almstadt is the new director of player trading and Bobby Gardiner as director of football intelligence. Both will work closely with Rúben Amorim, who is set to play a key role in technical decisions and squad construction.
Clauses surface
According to Bild, Krösche’s name had been seriously considered, with a big budget promised. At the end of June – just days before the transfer window opened and with the new season’s schedule already set – Eintracht had no intention of letting go of key men like Krösche and Hardung.
Eintracht’s position was clear: no openness to an immediate exit. However, things could change later: Krösche has a release clause valid in the winter transfer window, for a compensation in the order of a few million euros.
It is a clause restricted to certain sides though: it can only be activated by Bayern Munich, Borussia Dortmund and some top Premier League clubs. For this reason, regardless of the failed Milan move, Krösche’s future remains an open question.
His contract with Eintracht expires in 2028 , but a renewal currently seems far from certain. He has been kept in Frankfurt for planning continuity reasons, rather than for long-term certainty.
