Tuttosport: Krunic to have crucial task against Spurs as Pioli makes selection choice

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan head coach Stefano Pioli is expected to field Rade Krunic in the attacking trident for the game against Spurs, according to a report.

Tuttosport (via MilanNews) report this morning that Brahim Diaz didn’t train with the rest of the squad at Milanello yesterday after missing the defeat against Fiorentina with a slight knee sprain, so today’s training session will be key to understanding if he will travel with the team at all.

Even if he were to recover, Pioli should field Krunic from the first minute. The Bosnian was also absent in Florence due to a suspension and should therefore return to play the role of box-to-box attacking midfielder, expected to give a hand in both phases.

It is nothing new for Krunic to play in that role as he often did it last season as well. He will have the duty of protecting the midfield pairing of Sandro Tonali and Ismael Bennacer while also pressing from the front and being effective when Milan get their moments to counter.

Krunic can also contribute in key moments too as already seen in the current edition of the Champions League when he scored against Red Bull Salzburg at San Siro following an assist from Giroud.
