‘I didn’t feel appreciated’ – Krunic cites Maldini’s exit as factor behind Milan struggles

Rade Krunic has reflected on his time at AC Milan and more specifically leaving the club, stating that Paolo Maldini’s departure changed things.

Krunic left Milan at the start of January to join Fenerbahce, six months after the Turkish side had first expressed their interest in landing the midfielder, who is close to compatriot Edin Dzeko.

It had been a strange few months for the Bosnian, who started last season as the defensive midfielder under Stefano Pioli before that experiment was quickly binned off.

He found his playing time reducing as a result and made the switch to Turkey for just six months before he headed to Red Star, who face Milan in the Champions League tonight.

Krunic gave an interview to Sky on the eve of the game pitch-side after the training session at San Siro, and he explained leaving Milan.

“Returning to San Siro is an incredible feeling, I couldn’t wait. Two months ago I played against Inter but facing Milan is something else. I had a great time, I can’t wait to play tomorrow,” he said.

“I had many points of reference, from Pioli to the directors, since Maldini and Massara and even Zlatan left I lost those points of reference that I had and I wasn’t at my best.

“I didn’t feel appreciated by the new directors like before, leaving this club obviously isn’t easy, it’s the best in the world for me, but I had to make my choices and it was the right time to do so.”

  1. What was the reason for leaving Fenerbahce then and going back even further down to a way lower league?
Fenerbache who appreciated you more than Milan’s new directors couldn’t wait to get rid of you 6 months after they signed you. Fenerbahce let you go to Zvezda for free and are actually paying half of your 3m salary not to play for them.
That’s what they think of you.

    1. And yet, he’s accomplished more in the past year than you will in your whole life. Maybe it’s time to shift away from insulting people above you on Internet forums.

  2. Here we go. Why is anyone even talking to Krunic at this point? He didn’t feel appreciated?? He should have been thankful every day he was at a club like Milan with his limited talent. It was an embarrassment that this guy ever started for this club. He’s now at a place he belongs.

  3. Hmmm what’s this? Players need to be in an environment where they feel comfortable and appreciated to be at their best? I thought they were just robots all this time

    1. He was at his best with us. That was the problem. His best was not good enough. He is now at a more suitable club for his talent level. I’m sure they will appreciate him there.

  4. Krunic gave his best for us. He was professional, loved the team, adapted to different roles when needed, provided good defensive cover in midfield, and didn’t cause any drama when he was on the bench. He was overly criticized in my opinion when he was struggling, not taking into account that he was playing with a completely new midfield that continued to struggle even after he left.

    1. & he was part of last scudetto team, like it or not he saved us many time as Man in right time, he throw himself to get yellow if needed just to cancel dangerous counter cz of another players mistake,
he’s not 1of the greats but he done lot more than his hater here,
      thanks & good luck Krunic

  5. It is difficult to be appreciated when you are a complete waste of money in the team Rade…. maybe you should reflect on that, and also the strong jeers tonight at San Siro
