Further confirmation has arrived that another new site is being considered by AC Milan and Inter for the new stadium project, one not far from San Siro.
Calciomercato.com report – as Corriere della Sera did earlier in the week – that the ‘La Maura’ site is one of the hypotheses being examined by the Rossoneri which is the old hippodrome around a kilometre away from San Siro, on private land now owned by Snaitech.
However, city mayor Beppe Sala declared that he has not had an official communication from the clubs regarding the idea.
“One thing interests me, that San Siro stays in Milan. I’ve been working towards this goal for a long time. So it could also be a good solution, but honestly, I don’t know anything about it yet,” he said.
There are many reasons that could make it a ‘good solution’ for everyone involved, especially for the council who continue to face pressure from Milan and Inter who are now looking at abandoning the San Siro area and moving to Sesto San Giovanni, San Donato or Rozzano due to delays, appeals and other disputes.
The La Maura hypothesis would instead make it possible to keep the Meazza standing and evaluate alternatives. ASM Global have made an offer to buy the current Meazza and maintain it, for example.
However, there is another hypothesis: the paths of Milan and Inter could split with one team moving into the new facility and the other staying at San Siro, a solution appreciated by the council because they could continue making revenue from the current stadium and would not have to go through the controversial issue of demolition.
