More updates are emerging all the time regarding AC Milan’s plan to build a new stadium on their own and detach themselves from the new San Siro project.
La Gazzetta dello Sport (via PianetaMilan) recall that Gerry Cardinale and Milan CEO Giorgio Furlani met yesterday with Mayor Giuseppe Sala and Lombardy regional president Attilio Fontana regarding the construction of a new stadium.
Now the La Maura hippodrome is the location on pole even if other areas such as Sesto San Giovanni and San Donato remain in the running. One thing is now clear: the intention is to proceed alone, without Inter, thus abandoning the project shared since 2019.
Cardinale provided assurances that the decision is not to spite the Nerazzurri or to try and cause issues, but rather he is acting in the specific interest of the Rossoneri and with urgency in mind given the importance of a new stadium in RedBird’s plans.
In the month of March, Milan will concentrate its efforts on studying the La Maura area with costs, viability and other aspects to be defined. By April Milan want to make a decision on where their new stadium will be.
Snaitech – who are the current owner of La Maura – have signed a preliminary sale agreement with Federico Consolandi ‘s F3A green. The Milan leaders will have to talk to both companies and have begun that process.
The Rossoneri would like to build the stadium in the northern part of the area, while even if the sale of the area to F3A green materialises, then Snaitech would maintain a permanent right to an area in the south for horse training.
The La Maura idea is also liked by Sala, who does not want Milan to leave the city limits and it would allocate an area that is now inaccessible to the community.
