La Nacion: Pellegrino already training with Independiente – what is holding up the deal

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan defender Marco Pellegrino is already training with Independiente but the deal cannot yet be made official, according to a report.

Milan announced just under one year ago that they had completed the permanent signing of Pellegrino from Club Atlético Platense, who arrived as a bit of an unknown quantity but penned a long-term deal until 30 June 2028.

After struggling for playing time then getting injured when his chance did come, the centre-back was loaned out to Salernitana for the second half of the 2023-24 campaign to try and get more minutes which he did, though they were relegated and thus the search for new accommodation began.

Reports earlier this month stated that Independiente were close to welcoming him on loan, and Argentine source La Nacion (via Radio Rossonera) have revealed a bit more on the situation.

They state that Pellegrino is already training with Independiente, but he has not yet been able to sign the contract because the club have been sanctioned for the debts accumulated with two former players and cannot use new purchases until the situation is resolved.

Milan are obviously hoping that the Buenos Aires based club get that issue sorted sooner rather than later, especially because they have granted Pellegrino to train with them rather than being with the Rossoneri.

    1. Really?

      Wow.

Calafiori would’ve been great but probably would’ve struggled under Pioli so the player is better off.
