However, it was hoped that a win this weekend could settle things. Now, they have slightly, but not completely…
Allegri’s future in the air… again
As Gazzetta dello Sport writes, the win against Genoa has provided a bit more security for the future. But nothing is settled completely.
Qualifying for the Champions League would see Allegri’s deal extended automatically for another season, with a pay increase also tied to that confirmation. However, it would still be possible that he leaves the club this summer.
A meeting is set to take place in the summer for the parties to define their expectations for the year ahead, starting with the mercato. Indeed, there is where Allegri will need to pay particular attention to the words from the club.
He is seeking ‘technical guarantees’ about his squad and the investment into it and is ‘demanding quality reinforcements in every department’. If that is provided, he will stay. If not, he goes. It is that simple.
If that’s true, they’ll let him go and appoint a new fall guy with lesser demands.

After the season he is gone for sure. Just look at it this way- He wants competitive squad with quality players. Who is at charge of deciding player signings- Ibra. Him and Ibra cant stand each other and Ibra openly said he wanted another coach. Period
I mean, that’s music to Gerry’s ears. Thank you for getting us back to CL but almost doubled payrise and quality established players with international and CL experience? There’s the door and goodbye.
Nothing would make me happier. These games are unwatchable.
Allegri was never my choice last summer and I’ve never been a fan of the 3-5-2 formation and his earlier successful stints with Juventus didn’t exactly make me any more fond of him but when that is said if we actually do qualify for CL next season I definitely believe it would still be a huge mistake to have to start all over from scratch one time again.
Milan needs stability and Allegri needs the players he can use to make the squad progress and lift the level so the ownership better just for once do everything within their means for that to happen.
It is very painful, but I can’t disagree about the point on stability and not having to start over again. The club will have to make tough decisions about players like Leao and Pulisic. If we’re going to continue with the bus parking 3-5-2, the club must have the balls to shape the squad to suit the style
Well I can more easily see Pulisic being of more value to Allegri than Leao as he works a lot more in both phases of the game and can either slot in as an CAM or a second striker or both wings as I see Leao being more one dimensional and for that matter works less in both phases of the game. Don’t get me wrong I adore Leao he is a great player but he is also more of an anchor if he doesn’t perform.
I read some interesting stats earlier today on Football Italia in regard of Leao and even if they are not 100% scientific they are nevertheless interesting.
“Leao has featured in 28 of Milan’s 37 Serie A matches this season. Of the nine games he has not appeared in, the team have gone on to win seven, draw one and lose one, which gives them an average of 2.44 points per game when Leao has not featured.
2.44 points per game over the course of a full 38-game season comes to around 92 points, which would have been enough to win the league title in four of the last five Serie A seasons. For comparison, Inter have won the Scudetto with a points average of 2.32 per game in 2025-26.
Milan are currently averaging 1.71 points per game when Leao does feature in the side. Over the course of a full season, that comes to just shy of 65 points, which, in 2025-26, would have Milan in seventh place and healing for Conference League football.”
I think Leao would be a super sub at one of the rich clubs around but as things stand we cant afford him as a starter as the base isn’t the same as current top clubs to back him up and never really was. I would nevertheless miss him if he is sold.

Compared to when he comes on as a sub (which would be a small sample).
He has started so many games this season and provided little.
Ironically many if the strikers we let go from last season would been far more suitable to Allegri’s formation.

Not saying I think these players would have solved our problems. But I’d love to know how the season would have gone with them as options.

Yep. Even the eye test is enough for that conclusion. The Genoa game is now one of those games that we won without Leao. He becomes a double edged sword in the 3-5-2. There is his lack of defense, which is always there, but then he also becomes less effective going forward while still being the attacking focal point.
But even when Suso was our star player he also made us play more one dimensional which also to some extent held us back. Not to say that Leao isn’t much more talented but the issue is pretty much the same.
Milan fate is sealed if Allegri qualifies for the Champions League. Cardinale will not payout 12m to terminate Allegri contract and Cardinale will also not pay the 20m to buy out Farioli contract from Porto.
So we are stuck with Allegri at least for another 2 seasons.
