GdS: The latest on Maignan’s return as big step forward should happen this week

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan are eagerly awaiting the return of their starting goalkeeper Mike Maignan after several months out due to calf problems.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport (via MilanNews), the French goalkeeper is in fact finally almost ready to return as he should return to training with the rest of the squad this week. However, after such a long stop his condition is not yet at 100% and that is why a start against Atalanta is far from guaranteed.

It is more likely that his return to the field will take place on March 4 away against Fiorentina, which will be a sort of dress rehearsal in view of the return leg in the Champions League last 16 on March 8 against Spurs.

A definitive decision on when Maignan will return will be made in the next few days based on how his calf responds to the increased workload, but after five months nobody wants to run any risks, which is why he will only be back between the posts when he is at 100%.
