AC Milan have been linked with a move for Jean-Philippe Mateta in recent days, and he continues to press for a move away from Crystal Palace.
Calciomercato.com confirm that Mateta wants to play in Italy next. As reported in recent days by Fabrizio Romano in a video on his Italian YouTube channel, the striker is studying the Italian language, while waiting for a possible call from Serie A.

Furthermore, Mateta has already submitted an official document to Crystal Palace requesting approval for his transfer in the January transfer window. This clear stance is dictated by his desire to embark on a new experience.

Palace for their part are open to a sale, but only under certain conditions that are currently not particularly favourable to Italian clubs. We’re talking about a permanent purchase for a fee of €40m, and no loan formulas.
In recent weeks, Mateta’s name was heavily linked to Juventus, who were believed to have offered close to €30m. However, it was a loan with an option to buy, a formula that the south London club would not accept.
Milan have been monitoring Mateta for months and are big admirers, but a move for him would require an exit, with all the evidence pointing to Christopher Nkunku. There is another obstacle too: competition from clubs with much deeper pockets.
As reported by The Telegraph, Nottingham Forest are preparing an assault for Mateta. The Athletic even stated that they have submitted a £35m offer to Crystal Palace. It is close to Palace’s request, but work would be needed to convince the player.
Palace would only accept a £40m offer, also considering the possibility of immediately signing a replacement like the former Milan man Jorgen Strand-Larsen, now at Wolves. In short, Milan are at the window looking on, but Mateta’s future is uncertain.

To be fair to Nottingham, they have the same number of UCLs as Juventus & Chelsea and more than PSG, Arsenal, Tottenham, Manchester City & Olympique de Marseille.

At one point Milan and Nottingham Forrest had the same amount of Champions league/European Cup trophies, 2 each. That changed when super rich with a big financial muscle bought Milan and his money financed Milan winning 5 more UCL’s.
Football isn’t fooked. Football has always been about money. Our fans thinks that Football is fooked because Milan is on the opposite side of the clubs that have money.
EPL is the best league in football because they have the most money. Thats the same reason why serie A was the best league in football from the late 80’s up until the early 2000’s.

You are absolutely correct that money talks and it was always like that. Real Madrid won 5 UCLs in a row because they purchased Di Stéfano. We won 2 UCLs in a row because we purchased players like Van Basten, Gullit and Rijkaard who were among the best in the world at that time (which is the equivalent of having Haaland, Rodri and Bellingham together).
But at least being limited to 2, 3 or 4 foreign players limited how much you can purchase from other countries and forced teams to rely more on domestic players.
Prior to 1997, even with how much money they have, the current teams of PSG, Manchester City, Real Madrid or even ours (we only have 2 or 3 italians in the starting XI) would simply be impossible.
So yes it was always about money, but back in the days it was a bit more nerfed.
Sure, but 30 years ago there was a lot more parity between the top clubs, whichever ones they were and the top leagues. Now relegation clubs in the PL have more money than the top clubs in Serie A. This was never true before. Real Madrid has *15* CL titles, they began the century with 8. Where was the talk of a “Super League” in the 90s”? Many things have changed in the last 25 years. Football is fooked.
And to be clear, relegation teams in Serie A in the 90s NEVER had more money than the top clubs in the PL or any one of the other top 5 leagues. Also, in those days clubs from France not named PSG, clubs from Portugal, and clubs from the Netherlands would still compete for continental trophies.
There was a talk of a super league 30 years ago. Matter fact Berlusconi was one of the leading people in promoting that idea.

Milan played in 3 UCL finals in a row in the 90’s, so did Juventus.
Barcelona played in 2 finals during that decade, so did Ajax and Marseille.
As @Giga94 said, the difference was the foreign players number limit, which allowed clubs from weaker leagues like Ajax or Crvena Zvezda, or Marseille to win the UCL because they were able to keep most of their best players. Now those clubs cant keep their players and are selling them to the big clubs. Big clubs could have bought every top player and talent back then but because of the rule they weren’t able to register and play them. Milan had a balloon d’or winner like Papin sitting on the bench less than a year after he won the award.
We don’t know how much money bottom teams in serie A made at that time compared to the top EPL teams because most of that stuff wasn’t being reported as it is nowadays.
@Z, when I say parity, I mean financially. Serie A was the top league in the 90s, what changed then? It helps my argument, not yours. The foreign player thing/bosman applies to all leagues equally. Then we literally have numbers available for club and league income. Can you not see how the PL and certain individual clubs from elsewhere have skyrocketing income? At the turn of the century Milan what revenues higher than Madrid. Now Madird has revenue 5x what we have. I understand that football is about money. Never said it wasn’t. Wha I’m saying is that money has flooded into football in the last 25 years in a way that it hadn’t before. Before 2000 clubs weren’t owned by private equity funds or sovereign wealth funds. They were owned by individuals/families, even if they were wealthy, or their members.
And how many league titles did Milan have and how many did Nottingham have?
As I remember is that Nottingham is the only club that have more CL titles than League titles
