SM: Why Lazetic has not featured yet for Milan and the plans for his immediate future

By Oliver Fisher -

Marko Lazetic is not yet ready for his first team debut because Stefano Pioli still believes he needs a bit more work, according to our information.

As we have learned from our colleagues at, Pioli believes that Lazetic needs time to settle into a new group and a new league without the pressure of expectations, hence why he was not even called up to the squad for the game against Napoli.

Olivier Giroud is in good form and Zlatan Ibrahimovic is now back from injury plus Ante Rebic has experience playing the centre-forward role, so those are the trio that will lead the Scudetto sprint for Milan.

In his first 40 days since joining from Red Star the Serbian striker has followed a specific training program to get up to what the Milan staff consider to be 100% fitness, so that means that he has worked very little on tactics with his team-mates and this is the main reason why he has not featured yet.

Starting points

Lazetic speaks English fluently, thus being able to converse with his team-mates. He is studying Italian, but he does not yet have a level to understand the instructions that are given to him. Milan have invested €5m euros and are banking heavily on him for next season, so he will fight for a spot in the squad during preseason but could also be sent on a dry loan to a Serie A team.
