Barring any late surprises (and there have been in the past), Igli Tare looks all set to become the new sporting director of AC Milan.
After a 15-year senior playing career that saw him represent Partizani, Karlsruhe, Fortuna Dusseldorf, Kaiserslautern, Brescia, Bologna and Lazio, Tare made the decision to remain with the Biancocelesti as he became the team manager.
While doing that he did a sporting director course and assumed that role in 2009, spending 15 years at the helm under Claudio Lotito. During his time as a director for the Biancocelesti, they won three Coppa Italia trophies and six Supercoppa Italiani, qualifying for the Champions League multiple times too.
Now, he is all set for a new adventure having been out of work since 2023. Matteo Moretto is reporting that he will join on a two-year deal with an option for a third, and TeleLombardia have assessed some of his work with Lazio.
Tare’s signings at Lazio
The broadcaster have picked out some of the successful signings Tare made while in the capital, including the most obvious ones in Ciro Immobile – who became the club’s record goal scorer – and Sergej Milinkovic-Savic. There is even talk of the latter being a ‘dream’ target for Milan.
The likes of Felipe Anderson, Luis Alberto, Miroslav Klose, Hernanes and Stefan De Vrij also make the list of top signings, and all of the aforementioned were acquired for €10m or less with the exception of Hernanes.
In terms of flop signings, TeleLombardia have pointed to Muriqi, Akpa Akpro, Vavro, Maximiano, Marcos Antonio and Durmisi as being the biggest disappointments. The first four all cost over €10m.

Lazio coaches under Tare
Vladimir Petkovic was someone Tare had at Lazio, and he delivered a Coppa Italia with that dramatic derby final win over Roma. Stefano Pioli – who would of course go on to coach AC Milan – got them into the Champions League qualification phase.
Then there is Simone Inzaghi, now at Inter, who brought three trophies including two Supercoppa Italiani and the domestic cup, and got them in the UCL once. Qualifying for the top European competition is something which Maurizio Sarri also did.

He better not think of signing SMS. That dude has cashed in on his career.
That will not happen. SMS is getting 20m a year. He’s not stupid to walk away from a deal like that in a league that is easy. LOL.
Hes not someone to bring excitement to us fans but at Lazio he did a damn good job working with peanuts
This is exactly why I have a good feeling about him as our DS.
that’s exactly what he need to do.. but must with better results now because he is now at Milan
Outside of Reijnders, Puli, Jimenez and arguably Fofana our management has brought nothing but flops.
Tare’s hopefully more productive.
Nothing compared to ultimate flop Moncada and his signing in last two seasons.
Oh to have a top 6 flops list that cost so little…
Ha. Good point
nah. he is just a peanut who aims for mid table seri a
Even those flops of his don’t compete with our 18M€ Emerson Royal -type of flops. His were much cheaper and still much more useful.
