Leao admits he has been practicing headers as he reflects on ‘important’ win

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan winger Rafael Leao has admitted that he has been working on headers in training after he scored one today against Lecce.

Milan were not at their best in truth and they were made to work hard for the win against a Lecce side who sat quite deep and attempted to frustrate while also causing their own moments of danger on the counter-attack.

As has been the case numerous times, the Rossoneri had Rafael Leao to thank for the three points. He broke the deadlock not long before the break with a header after a short corner routine, and then netted himself a brace after a fantastic solo run in the second half having picked up the ball on the halfway line.

Leao spoke to DAZN after the game to reflect on what was a fantastic individual performance but a far from vintage one from a team point of view, with his comments relayed by MilanNews.

“I always try to do what I did today, even if I don’t make assists, to help my team-mates. Today it was important to win, it’s been a long time since we’ve done it in the league. With these teams who play deep, it’s difficult to score but the goal in the first half was important. In the second we managed to score the second,” he said.

On his dought at San Siro: “It’s nice to score. I thought about it before the match, today I had to score. It’s always nice to score goals at San Siro with these great fans.”

On scoring headers: “Yes, even after training I practice on headers. The coach says I have to score more headers with my size.”

On the league table: “We are having an incredible season in the Champions League and next year we have to come back and fight with the best teams in Europe.”

On Juve’s punishment being revoked: “We do our job, we don’t look at the others. We try to do our job and today we did it and we’re happy.”
