Leao admits he ‘missed the goal’ and explains Theo connection: “I’m lucky”

By Isak Möller -

Rafael Leao bagged his first goal in over a month this evening as he sealed the deal against Stade Rennes with a lovely 3-0 strike. Understandably so, the Portuguese winger was very happy when he spoke to the media after the game.

Leao has struggled with his goalscoring this season and tonight’s strike, earning him a good score in our player ratings, was the first since January 10th. He will also be hoping looking to add another at the weekend, having not scored in the league since September.

Speaking to Sky Italia after the game, as cited by MilanNews, Leao shared his thoughts on the important goal and the support of the fans. He was also asked about the Scudetto, with Milan currently nine games unbeaten in the league.

On the goal…

“I missed the goal, but I’m doing well even without scoring. The goal is important for confidence.”

On the fans…

“They have always supported me, even in the poor moments they gave me strength. I have to thank the fans, but also my team and my family.”

On the Scudetto…

“There are still many games to go. It’s difficult, but not impossible. We are strong, we are doing well. Tonight we beat a difficult opponent. We can get to the top.”

On his moment…

“Theo makes my game easy. We get along well on the pitch, when he has the ball I already know what to do. Giroud goes to the near post, I go to that area near the spot. It’s easy to play with players like that, I’m lucky to have teammates like that.”

On the substitution…

“I only took a blow to my calf. I’ll be there against Monza.”

The next game is against Monza, scheduled for Sunday evening, and Leao will certainly play from start in that one. As said, he will be looking to end his goal drought in the league, showing what he’s capable of tonight.
