Rafael Leao has once again spoken out about his future, insisting that he will make a decision after the World Cup.
Even though the season finished nearly one month ago, Leao has been a constant presence in the newspaper headlines after giving a series of interviews in which he made it clear that he sees his seven-year spell at Milan as being over.

Last night, Leao got himself off the mark at the 2026 World Cup having come off the bench during Portugal’s 5-0 rout of Uzbekistan. A sweeping finish into the top corner was the exclamation point on a ruthless performance, and may just have alerted potential suitors.
The winger spoke to DAZN after the full-time whistle to give his thoughts on the performance of his national team and also the Amorim appointment, with his words via MilanNews.
How much better do you feel?
“I have to celebrate with my family because this season has been difficult for me. Injuries and so many things in between. Even the season with AC Milan. I have to thank my family for helping me so far. This match, this goal, is for them.”
What was your first thought after the goal?
“It’s been a lot of work, with my personal trainer, my team-mates. I have to thank the coach for having placed his faith in me until now, because Portugal has many strong players, so I’m very happy to be here.”
Now, what will Leao be like?
“I have to do it for myself, not for anyone else. For my team-mates, my coach. I’m happy because I helped the team, and getting minutes was important.”
What about your future at Milan, where Amorim has just arrived?
“Right now, I have to focus on the World Cup. What I know about this coach is that he’s very good – he did well in Portugal. Things didn’t go his way at United, but he’s still a great coach. I’ll decide what my life will be like after the World Cup.”

If Milan doesn’t cash out now, he is leaving on a free transfer or we’d get 20mill at best when we decide to force him out.
So basically he said i want a new challenge in premiere league and said he likes Arsenal and United, thinking that clubs will stand in line for him, now that only turkish and saudi clubs knocked on his door he realized he has to step back from the past statement.

I respect what he did previously for the club but he just hasn’t taken the extra leap that we expected him to take and combine that with his work ethics he is sometimes more a liability than an asset so I’ll say sell him. 50 mil should be possible to attain for him.
I agree man. we’ve been waiting for that extra leap and into the truly consistent elite group. My one hesitation (i know call me romantic). Amorim plays with wingers….Rafa struggled last season because he was never a CF nor a SS. It feels silly to me that just when we are about to use wingers again (Rafa did his best when he was winger), we sell him low. If we cant get 50, i’d say risk it, keep the kid, play him as a winger and see where we are at end of the season. I
Amorim uses 3-4-2-1 and 3-4-3 but there are no wingers in 3-4-2-1. Leao was CF in both Sporting
and Lille- not all the time, of course, but he used
to play that and there as well, it’s simply not true that he was never a striker in his career because
he certainly was.
Sorry for the late reply but went out and got hammered and has first has awokened up now but as much as I adore Leao a Scudetto memory lane I’m pretty much done and think he should be sold as he is never gonna take that leap with us. He might get a wakeup call if he moves on to another club but it wont happen with us. That is at least how I percieve it. I could see him do well in Spain but I doubt that any club there of significance would come calling presently. He would be a great back up bench player there though.
Either way I would miss him at the club but at the same time I believe as a team we could grow without him but what do I know.

You can’t pivot back after stating 3 times publicly that you’re ready to move on. On principle at this point.
The kid has no back bone – soft like jello. Which describes his performances over the years. Wobble between great to average to poor.
His times up. Fact his saying I will decide my life after the world cup when his under contract and our highest earner shows his on the way out. If Portugal goes far and he continues to score we should get 50-60m for him. Trincao or Li Kang would be ideal replacements. Throw chiesa in there too if he can be bought on the cheap.
