Leao provides background on link-up with Tomori: “Something we do in training”

Rafael Leao spoke to the media after AC Milan’s win against Lazio, in which he scored the only goal, and revealed that the team had worked on that move in training.

It wasn’t the prettiest of games, and certainly not Milan’s best display of the season, but they came away with all three points in the end. Leao opened the scoring at the start of the second half, picking up a good position in the box and slotting it home.

Fikayo Tomori was the man who crossed the ball to the No.10, having made a good run down the right-hand side. Speaking to Sky Italia afterwards (via MilanNews), Leao revealed that they have worked on that move in training a lot.

Are you starting to move more as a No.9?

“I’m learning. My teammates help me, on and off the pitch. They understand the movements I have to make: Fikayo’s cross is something we do in training. We have to keep going; we knew it would be difficult. We’re very happy.”

It’s a different atmosphere now, can you win the Scudetto?

“We’re on the right track, but we still have a lot of games to go. Today was very difficult: we worked really well and we want to continue like this. In four days we will play them again and we want to win. Thank you to our fans for the support, they are incredible.”

An opinion on Allegri?

“Allegri is a winner, he even won here at Milan. He has the experience of managing the dressing room, even those on the bench: Ruben and Samuele helped with the same desire as those who played from start.

Dreams?

“Dreaming is free, but it takes a long time. We want to advance in the Coppa Italia, which is a goal.”

Milan will take on Lazio once again next week, albeit this time in the Coppa Italia and in Rome. The Rossoneri usually play the round of 16 at home, but since they finished in 8th place last season, they were not one of the seeded teams in the draw.

  1. There’s still a lot to learn for him if this is going to be his role.
Remember that pavlovic shot with his right that provodel let go? I watched Rafa and as soon as Pav lifted his right foot to shoot a Giroud would have followed anticipating the rebound, had Rafa done that, he would have had a tap in, but instead he waited for the shot to be taken, saved and then chased the rebound. In between he missed that movement.
The devil is in the detail.
He’s performing well so far, and love Rafa, but there’s plenty of room to improve… which is a nice thing, cause if he continues to improve, it’s only better go for us.
    Forza Milan
