Leao discusses wearing captain’s armband for Milan and Portugal: “Source of pride”

Rafael Leao recently wore the captain’s armband for AC Mildn due to a few absences and during his press conference for Portugal yesterday, he was asked about wearing it for the national team as well.

Leao is a key player for Milan and the renewal at the end of last season was certainly crucial. In the game against Hellas Verona, the winger wore the captain’s armband (Calabria and Theo were absent) and also scored the winner for the Rossoneri.

Speaking at the press conference yesterday, as cited by Calciomercato.com, Leao was asked about wearing the captain’s armband and how it would be to wear it for Portugal as well. He stated that it would be a huge honour.

Is the next goal the captain’s armband for Portugal as well after Milan?

“Yes, of course. It would be a very important moment for me, for my career and for my family. Representing the national team is a source of pride, even more so with the captain’s armband. I don’t know, we’ll see…”

Portugal will face Slovakia on Friday and then Belarus on Monday (both Euro qualifiers), with Leao is expected to feature in both. It remains to be seen if he will play from start or not, though.
