Leao scores at San Siro

GdS: ‘Unblocked Rafa at San Siro’ – Leao carrying Milan on his back with recent rejuvenation

Rafael Leao, until last night, had not scored at San Siro in almost 200 days. In recent weeks, the winger has rejuvenated himself, and now AC Milan are looking much better.

This season, it has too often been a case of Leao against Milan, and vice versa. The Portuguese winger has struggled for minutes and contributions to the team, whether that be literally or physically, and this has had a knock on effect.

Fewer physical showings of his effort for the team resulted in less minutes, and with fewer minutes there are fewer chances to affect the game.

That Leao is one of the past, though.

Since the last international break, Leao has been back at his best as Gazzetta dello Sport writes. The winger has five goals in seven games, and the Portuguese is back to being ‘electric’. Perhaps the truest sign of his absence was the lack of goals at San Siro.

192 days ago, Stefano Pioli’s last game, the winger ran to the former Rossoneri head coach after scoring his last. Last night, against Sassuolo, the streak was broken and Leao returned to the San Siro scoresheet.

Leao’s positioning has become slightly more central and there is, once again, a feeling of hope when he gets on the ball in this period, which has been a case throughout the season.

Hopefully the winger can continue to build upon this, as too often the question has been asked about the status of the ‘real Leao’, but it seems he is back, and San Siro witnessed that.

    1. Lol I was going to say the same thing. It’s nice that he’s playing much better but the title here is dumb. Pulisic was literally carrying the team on his back early on and now multiple guys are stepping up and playing well. Especially Reijnders.

  1. Fofana does not get the credit he deserves tbh. Tiji’s current form is down to his incredible talent yes but he has been unshackled by the juggernaut that is Fofana in defensive duties. Lord have mercy the man is an asset we have been lacking since Kessie and Sandro.
