Some good news has arrived regarding Rafael Leao’s court battle against former club Sporting CP as it has been ruled he will not have to pay a penny.
Leao was sentenced in the first instance to pay €16.5m to Sporting after he made a free transfer to Lille by unilaterally terminating his contract, and the Lisbon Court of Appeal has already rejected a first appeal by the player, so he was awaiting the result of an appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport.

According to what is being reported by the reliable Portuguese newspaper Record (via MilanNews), the Court of Arbitration for Sport have made their ruling and they decided that it is in fact Lille who are responsible for the compensation.
Despite the initial verdict, the Court have determined that the player is not liable for paying his former club and instead Lille have to pay €20m (including interest) to Sporting CP.
This will further help Milan in signing sanches and botman given lille’s financial situation just got worse.🙃
Or else, Lille will listen more to clubs that bring more money than Milan.

Good news for Milan and leao
I don’t see why anyone would pay anything to Sporting? The club (Sporting) didn’t secure a safe working environment and players and their lives were endangered by savage (again) Sporting fans. So, why would Sporting receive any money??? It’s Sporting fans who created a whole mess so they should be the first responsible. The second responsible is Sporting (club). No responsibilities at all for Leao or Lille. Leao just wanted to continue doing his job in a safe place, and Lille offered him employment.
It’s like working for a company where working conditions are very unsafe and management or other employees threaten you and abuse you. So, you make a decision to leave and find employment at another place.
Sporting should pay Leao and others for putting their lives at risk.
So does that mean:
a) he doesn’t need to chase the money, so is free to sign with Milan
b) he no longer needs an instant pay-boost so he can wind his contract down for a big pay day in future…
Either way, good news for him!
