Having signed him from Lille in the summer, AC Milan were banking on Rafael Leao to be one of the players for the future. In an interview with MilanTV (via MilanNews.it), the youngster spoke about his adventure in Italy.
Thus far, Leao has done relatively well for his new club, although he hasn’t always been the first choice for the starting positions. Of course, there is a lot of pressure when moving to a club like Milan.
In the interview, the Portuguese striker touched on many topics, including the importance of Zlatan Ibrahimovic. Since his arrival, the Swede has been like a ‘big brother’ to the 20-year-old, who certainly can benefit from the great experience.
On Ibrahimovic: “Ibra is like an older brother to me. He always tries to help me to be a better player and with him, you feel the difference on the pitch. It’s a little tough on the pitch, but it’s always a lot of fun outside.”
On his shirt number: “I liked the number 7, but it was already taken. I also liked 17 and that’s why I chose it.”
On the San Siro: ”I didn’t expect to make my debut in the derby. For me, it’s a source of pride and a dream to wear the Milan shirt. I would never have expected him to get here so early. I’m very happy”.
On Milan legends he prefers: “Kaka, Maldini, Ronaldinho, but there are many other important players. It’s a great honour for me to be here.”
Leao also talked about his life off the pitch, which is something that fans don’t get to see a lot. At his age, especially, it’s never easy to move to a new country and learn a new language, while also managing to perform on the pitch.
On his spare time: “On the pitch, I’m unpredictable, but outside I’m a shy boy who likes to rest and sleep. In my spare time, I see my friends and have fun, but most of the time I spend at home.”
On his passion for video games: “I play with my friends, but also with my teammates. The most competitive? Bennacer.”
