Leao opts for diplomatic approach as Milan put everything on the table

Rafael Leao has been in the spotlight for quite some time now as his contract with AC Milan will expire in 2024. Talks are underway between the parties and there could be a clear answer very soon, by the looks of it.

The Portuguese winger is a crucial player for the Rossoneri and that’s why Paolo Maldini and Ricky Massara are working hard on the renewal. In fact, as reported by Corriere Della Sera, they have even put €7m per year on the table.

With that in mind, we could perhaps see some movement on this front very shortly. Leao recently spoke about the matter in an interview and he opted for a diplomatic answer, giving more or less nothing away despite saying a decent amount.

“Experience in a new league? Yes, in the future. Now I’m focused on Milan, with whom I have a contract. I like the city a lot. Milan is a top club, a historic club. I’m living one of the best moments of my career,” he stated.

This could mean anything from he’s moving in January to he’s moving in two years and will renew. The feeling, based on what has filtered from Milan’s HQ lately, is that the €7m-a-year offer will be enough to convince Leao to say yes.

Anything can happen, though, and the upcoming weeks or so could be very decisive in the negotiations.

  1. If your not willing to accept then please leave, wishing you the best of luck like some one in Baca, you know whom l mean l guess l didnt call any name oh

  2. I think Maldini’s strategy to wait until summer 2023 is good for Ac Milan. If he doesn’t sign, during the next 6 months, Leao must be sold. If PSG proposed for Skriniar 65 million 1 year before the contract expires, Milan could get at least 85mil and sign 2 – 3 quality young players. Keep up the good work.

    1. That’s PSG, which is a unique club in that it overpays for all their players. Also, they had a need at CB in terms of Skriniar. PSG don’t need Leao, having Mbappe, Messi and Neymar, so they won’t be coming for him. Chelsea just signed Nkunku, Madrid just dropped 60m on a 16 year old. So this greatly narrows the field of potential clubs to basically just Man U and Newcastle, although they haven’t been mentioned in any of the posts. Call it a hunch. I highly doubt Man U will offer 85m for a player with one year remaining, particularly if they fail to qualify for the CL, which is a distinct possibility (again) this season. Meanwhile a Newcastle bid is rank speculation on my part. Unfortunately, this condition already exists now, so even if they put him on the market in January there are unlikely to get 85m. It seems like what we’re left with is a renewal, or a sale at a greatly discounted 50-60m in the summer.

  3. He won’t leave. Analyze his words beside still long way to improve technically. If goes to EPL, then it would be one of his biggest mistake. Look no farther to Paul Pogba

  4. When money is involve, anything is possible, laoe may see off his contract and leave for free, he can also sign a new contract and still leave Milan in 2024, I watch with my finger crossed but if he doesn’t sign before the end of the season, it’s game for over Milan.

  5. As amazing as Leao is as a player, he’s not as important to the team as Franck Kessie was. If we let Kessie leave for a smaller demand then just Leao leave. The team is struggling to fill Kessie’s role but still playing great. We will figure out Leao leaving as well. Life goes on.
