Leao opts for diplomatic approach as Milan put everything on the table

Rafael Leao has been in the spotlight for quite some time now as his contract with AC Milan will expire in 2024. Talks are underway between the parties and there could be a clear answer very soon, by the looks of it.

The Portuguese winger is a crucial player for the Rossoneri and that’s why Paolo Maldini and Ricky Massara are working hard on the renewal. In fact, as reported by Corriere Della Sera, they have even put €7m per year on the table.

With that in mind, we could perhaps see some movement on this front very shortly. Leao recently spoke about the matter in an interview and he opted for a diplomatic answer, giving more or less nothing away despite saying a decent amount.

“Experience in a new league? Yes, in the future. Now I’m focused on Milan, with whom I have a contract. I like the city a lot. Milan is a top club, a historic club. I’m living one of the best moments of my career,” he stated.

This could mean anything from he’s moving in January to he’s moving in two years and will renew. The feeling, based on what has filtered from Milan’s HQ lately, is that the €7m-a-year offer will be enough to convince Leao to say yes.

Anything can happen, though, and the upcoming weeks or so could be very decisive in the negotiations.
