Rafael Leao will have to spend longer out than was initially hoped as his calf issue was misdiagnosed, according to a report.
Leao got his 2025-26 campaign off to the perfect start by scoring a header early on against Bari in the Coppa Italia on August 17. However, moments after that he was forced off with a calf issue, and he has not seen the field since.

Not only that, but the Portuguese forward has continued individual work at Milanello, which has put Sunday’s game against Bologna in serious doubt.
More serious than first though
Today’s edition of Corriere della Sera (via MilanNews) reports that what initially appeared to be a minor strain was actually a low-grade soleus tear, a problem that will result in a four-week sideline (in total, meaning he has already had over three).

For this reason, Milan’s medical staff are taking no risks, and so Leao will also miss Sunday night’s match against Bologna at San Siro. At most, he could be on the bench, but that’s very unlikely at present.
Last night, during the Gentlemen’s Award ceremony, Leao spoke about his issue: “We’re working to get back as soon as possible, but it’s an injury that can’t be taken risks.” The calf is a delicate muscle, so rushing him back risks aggravating a longer-term issue.

Theo2 is coming soon
no surprise with our medical department…
The worst medical department in Serie A by far.
probably the cheapest. gerry approves
I dont understand why, these players will get a leg injury. And then the next game they are in the Stands Walking around San Siro, prolly close to 5km of walking distance a day. Walking around all day san siro with a calf injury
Good thing you aren’t a doctor – most Injuries heal better with movement, especially muscular. No movement means less blood flow to the muscle and less healing – this is as back as it gets.
*as basic as it gets – not “back”
And you are not ashamed to post this on the site..what a disgrace, No wonder when players go on injury their form is always bad after they are back from injury..with the poor medicals we having…I’ve never heard this since I’ve been watching football, misdiagnosed…At times i just seat and wonder if i wasn’t wrong supporting this team from onset
Calf injury is one of those that makes you think you’re all better before time. It’s easy to re-aggravate and doesn’t take much to do so, even simple gym work. Dealing with it literally right now lol 😅
Its a shame that hes out but kinda good. Milan struggle without leao and pulisic in the team needs to learn how to win without these two players.
Hopefully it puts more hunger in leao when he returns especially if other attacking options shine in his absence.
