GdS: Leao hoping to end goal ‘drought’ against Salernitana under San Siro lights

AC Milan will take on Salernitana at San Siro tomorrow with Stefano Pioli hoping that a drought of sorts for his left-sided duo will end.

Pioli’s team come into the game off the back of a goalless draw against Tottenham, but the Rossoneri managed to gain access to the quarter-finals of the Champions League thanks to the victory in the first leg.

La Gazzetta dello Sport have published some numbers ahead of the game, starting with the fact Milan have scored 37 of their 42 goals from open play, which as a percentage is 88%, more than anyone in the league. The Rossoneri scored 25 goals in the first half versus 17 in the first half.

Rafael Leao has scored in two of his nine Serie A appearances in 2023, including a goal against Salernitana on 4 January, but the forward hasn’t scored for six games. He has not gone seven games in a row without a goal in the league even since the end of the 2020-21 season

Theo Hernandez has scored 21 goals in Serie A since wearing the Milan shirt since his first goal for the Rossoneri against Genoa in October 2019. The Frenchman is the defender in the top five European leagues with the most goals but he hasn’t scored at home since the 2-1 win over Spezia before the World Cup break.
