CorSport: Leao hunting for a goal after two months – Milan need his contribution

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan need to take advantage of the dropped points from those around them and they hope Rafael Leao will lead them to victory against Salernitana.

According to Corriere dello Sport (via PianetaMilan), Leao is without doubt Milan’s main attacking threat and the creator of plenty of opportunities, but it is the goals he has scored that have made the biggest contribution.

However, over the last couple of months he seems to have stopped. His last goal in the league was 14 January in the 2-2 draw against Lecce, which means he has gone six whole Serie A matches without scoring..

Despite this, coach Pioli’s trust in him remains intact as he said in his pre-match press conference: “Leao is giving us a lot and he has moved well in the last few outings, we have to serve him better. Rafa is the player with the most freedom in his movements and he has to look for spaces to hit the opposing defence.”

The ‘drought’ that Leao is experiencing does not worry either the management or the coach at the moment. However, a goal from him today would be fundamental in the Rossoneri’s race for a place in the next edition of the Champions League.

In 2023 so far Leao has only scored two goals but one of his victims were tonight’s opponents Salernitana in the 2-1 win on January 4 at the Arechi.
