Leao looks ahead to the derby and explains what No.10 shirt means – video

Rafael Leao was present tonight at the Gentleman Fair Play award where he scooped a prize, and he also answered a few questions on stage.

Leao won the award for Milan’s best goal of last season, which was adjudged to be the 3-0 goal against Napoli at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona en route to a 4-0 rout against the eventual Scudetto winners.

He made a few statements on stage, starting with a response to winning the prize.

“It’s an honour to win this award, I want to thank all my team-mates and I hope to score a goal like this again this season.”

You scored another great goal against Roma, with an overhead kick…

“I’ve been trying to score the overhead kick for a while, it arrived and it was a very beautiful moment.

“I had never scored a goal at the Olimpico in the league, it came at the right time. For a footballer, scoring an overhead goal is the best way.”

Do you prefer a goal or an assist?

“I’m not a selfish player, I try to make the right play when I go one-on-one. Sometimes I can shoot but I always look to see if a teammate is in a good position.”

What does it mean to be the new No.10?

“For me it is a number of the great Milan players, Milan have always had strong number 10s. It was the right time to take the shirt, get on the pitch and show everyone what I can do on the pitch with that number.”

Inter and Milan had not been together at the top of the table since 1961. What value does this derby have?

“It’s always a very good match, the two teams are excited to play. Very good moment, all my teammates are waiting for this type of match. May the best team win.”
