GdS: Leao meets same fate 200km away – jeers from San Siro continue in Sassuolo

Yesterday, Rafael Leao’s performance was met with boos by the AC Milan fans, as has become an increasingly common situation.

A few years ago, there were jeers about performances occasionally. Now, Milan cannot avoid them and one player is struggling more than any other. That, of course, is Leao. At San Siro or Sassuolo, the situation is the same.

He plays poorly, he struggles, he is substituted, and he is met with jeers. It is an inescapable fate, even 200km away from home.

Leao jeered again

As Gazzetta dello Sport (seen below) writes, Leao is in crisis and the latest jeers are probably not helping. After deleting his Instagram account earlier in the week, he struggled through the game, with each mistake jeered by both sets of fans.

He has not scored since March 1 and signs of a goal coming are not there. It is clear that this situation is affecting him and the suggestions of him being further from the Rossoneri than ever before seems true. Mentally, he seems a million miles away.

After the game, Matteo Gabbia stated that is was ‘understandable’ that the fans booed the performance. However, he tried to separate the attack from the tirade of jeers coming their way, specifically referencing that they ‘need’ help.

Perhaps it is a message to the coach because it is becoming even more clear, if it was not already. Leao is not a striker and he cannot operate in a two, let alone by himself, as Allegri tried after the break.

  1. GDS just love to write thrash about Leao, am beginning to think they are anti Milan, this is not to excuse Leao’s miss, but the failing attack is as a result of poor connection with midfield and no master plan on how to attack but defend. That’s on Allegri

  2. Well why don’t they play him in the right position then ?
It is very frustrating watching Milan play ,
    I have to ask myself
Do they want to play Champions League?
Do they think they’re even good enough even for the Europa league ?
Can’t they even be bothered at times ?
I love Milan but they can be disheartening at times 🥹
