Rafael Leao’s future may not be away from AC Milan after all as he received a first phone call from Ruben Amorim.

Just after the season ended, an interview with Leao was released in which he spoke about a desire to leave Milan after seven years in order to try a new experience in a different league. Thus, his exit seemed absolutely certain, with the Rossoneri apparently open to selling too.

Ruben calls Rafa

The arrival of Amorim might just change things though. Sky report that Leao was contacted by the new Milan coach in recent days. As with all Milan players, it was a courtesy call and some discussions were held, but there is no decision yet on whether the winger will be sold or kept.

The coach wants to evaluate his entire squad, and in the last few hours the possibility of Leao remaining at the club is something that has emerged as a potential option, depending on Amorim’s interpretation of his 3-4-2-1.

Leao’s goal in the 5-0 win over Uzbekistan for Portugal the other day was a reminder of what he can do. He then gave a post-match interview to DAZN praising Ruben Amorim as a great coach and postponing any discussion of his future until after the World Cup.

Many interpreted these statement as a step backwards from his previous stance of wanting to leave Milan at all costs. At the very least, it seems, there is openness to a conversation from both sides.

Sky write: “Rafael Leao’s future at Milan is still up in the air. The Portuguese had announced his intention to leave, but Amorim’s arrival may have changed the game. The new Rossoneri coach had a phone call with the 27-year-old, a brief and polite greeting.

“However, the two didn’t discuss plans, postponing the topic until after the World Cup. Watch the video for all the latest on the Rossoneri transfer market.”

  1. “The coach wants to evaluate his entire squad,
and in the last few hours the possibility of Leao remaining at the club is something that has emerged as a potential option, depending on Amorim’s interpretation of his 3-4-2-1.”

What interpretation? Haven’t we already seen Leao struggling dearly in the center of a field? What would change in a 3-4-2-1?! There is no
room for Leao in that formation and there is certainly no room for both Pulisic and Leao without a formation in which WINGERS! are included, remember that. Leao is a WINGER.

  2. And how about if all that is a mirage to make it seems like he is unsellable after a few good WC performances so they can bump the price above 50mil. I honestly think his time at Milan is finished, no matter who the coach is.

  3. I’m just curious how he plans to appear in front of the audience at San Siro again after those recent media statements !? 🤔

  4. Where is he going to play? He’s terrible centrally and was completely ineffective as a striker. So now they’re going to make him play centrally as an attacking midfielder in a supporting role? LOL. The people don’t fvckin learn do they.
