It seemed Rafael Leao was going to be back for this weekend’s game against Hellas Verona. But AC Milan will have to do without.
Milan were hoping to have Leao back in the squad for the Supercoppa Italiana, but the Portuguese was forced to miss the semi-final through injury. So, the hope was that he would be back for Sunday’s game.

However, it has been touch and go, and now it has been confirmed that he will miss the game through injury.
Leao absent for Milan-Verona
This afternoon, Massimiliano Allegri spoke at a press conference about Leao’s condition, as MilanNews relays.
“I smile because Nkunku, I believe, he has the qualities to do well tomorrow too, since Leao is not in the game and will not be called up: he has this discomfort that does not allow him to shoot at his speed. I preferred to leave him at home because part-time players are not good at it.”
Frustratingly, Leao has looked as good as he has ever been this season. So the fact that he has struggled so much this season is a really unfortunate situation. However, with Niclas Fullkrug arriving, the hope will be that he can lessen the reliance on the star, so he is not rushed back.

Leão is quite troubling this season. His injuries last longer than initially reported, he leaves many games incomfortable, reportedly played some while not 100% fit.
I hope he didn’t sustain one of those conditions when a player spends more time in the infirmery rather than on the pitch.
It’s because we have no alternatives in attack. Giminez was playing less than 100% from the start and finally decided to have surgery and Nkunku has been useless. Meanwhile Pulisic has had his own injury concerns this season. So Leao has been forced to play when he probably should have sat, which only aggrevates any injuries he suffers. Honestly, our attack is a shambles this season. Every season it’s the same, with one department complely deficient. Last season it was midfield, this season it’s attack. It’s a game of whack a mole.

Your comment about our attack is the reason why I was against getting rid of ALL OF Camarda, Jović and Abraham. The main argument was that they didn’t fit Allegri’s style and system, but it’s not like Nkunku fits it anyways. The management/Tare was too focused on thinning out the squad and forgot that we actually need players.
Not sure about Camarda, as I think the pressures of the Milan first team would be too much for a 17 year old. As I’ve said in many posts, he belongs in a Serie B midtable team. One that has enough quality avoid the relegation battle and the pressures that come with that, and that also isn’t expecting promotion and the pressures that come with that. This way he’d be getting lots of minutes at a more manageable level. Even Serie C might have been a more realistic venue, as he didn’t exactly light up that competition with Futuro last season.
I’m not sure Jovic would have fit Allegri’s system. He’s not a targetman.
Abraham, yes. I think he would have been exactly what Allegri is looking for. The issue with him was that Roma was demanding 25-30M to make the move permanent. Of course, we then went off and spent 37M on Nkunku…
