GdS: Leao likely to be out until the new year – only Giroud will return against Napoli

Stefano Pioli will not have Rafael Leao at his disposal for Sunday night’s crucial game against Napoli at San Siro, according to a report.

The injury emergency continues for Milan with Ante Rebic, Leao, Olivier Giroud and Pietro Pellegri currently out. La Gazzetta dello Sport (via MilanNews) writes that while Giroud should be back by the weekend, the Croatian winger and the former Monaco striker will not be back before January.

Leao meanwhile is struggling with a muscle problem in his right thigh that he sustained in the league match against Salernitana back on December 4, and he will not recover in time for the match against Spalletti’s side. He is also strongly at risk of missing out on the trip to face Empoli next week too, the paper adds.

Given the many injuries, the medical staff do not want to run the risk of possible relapses that could keep the Portuguese out for more time. The pressure of goalscoring remains on Zlatan Ibrahimovic, while hoping for contributions from the likes of Brahim Diaz, Messias, Krunic and Saelemaekers.
