Despite Sunday’s win at Hellas Verona bringing AC Milan closer to qualifying for next season’s Champions League, it wasn’t all good news.
As Corriere della Sera (via MilanNews) recall this morning, Rafael Leao – who provided the assist for Adrien Rabiot’s winning goal at the Stadio Bentegodi – remains at the centre of controversy in the Milan world.

The Portuguese forward again didn’t appreciate being taken off, with the cameras picking up that he asked: “Why always me?” Massimiliano Allegri tried to reassure him, but Leao is bitter about the situationand has admitted it even to those close to him.
Milan’s No.10 seemed on edge, perhaps because he was booed by the Verona fans for no particular reason. He went to the bench and asked Dolcetti – one of Max’s assistants – why he was being substituted.
The explanation given was that in the second half, Leao played primarily by dropping deep to try and receive the ball. The coach’s request was to attack the space in behind, and so he put Santiago Gimenez on to try and carry out this instruction.
The truth is that Leao is on the market ahead of the summer window, and if offers of €40-50m were to arrive then the directors will not only evaluate them, but would be inclined to ending the relationship with the former Lille star after seven years. Matteo Moretto linked Barcelona last night.

Why always me : because you are lazy, useless, you walk on the pitch, you dont run after the ball after losing it, you are predictable in your dribbles…enough reasons.
Sure, the useless player has already secured 14 points by scoring the decisive goal (or in this case, the decisive assist) which he has done enough to secure 14 points this season, when preventing a defeat by equalizing, or providing a victory when the score was tied and he had the winning goal contribution.
The useless player is the Milan player this season with the HIGHEST number of goal contributions (so if he is useless, the WHOLE squad must be even more useless because NOBODY has contributed more than he did).
Without this useless player’s goal contributions, Milan would be in 8th place, behind Atalanta’s 54 points; we’d have 52 points, out of European competitions again.
Sure, sure, what an USELESS player!!!!
Yeah, yeah, Rafa has a number of defects, which is why he plays for us and not for Real or ManCity or PSG or Bayern. He also has a number of talents, which result in decisive goals. People who don’t understand the game (like you) will not have a balanced view of his strengths and shortcomings, and will only focus on the shortcomings, because it is fashionable to bash Rafael Leão. People like you think that they sound smart by bashing Rafa. Nope; they just sound silly and ignorant.
As for Rafa being unhappy with the substitution, ALL players in ALL of professional football don’t like it when they are subbed out. But because it’s Leão, this article and a silly poster like you, want to make of a normal fact of life, something sinister.
I agree with this.
What’s best for this team to succeed is to play Rafa out of position.
Really wish we were built to play 4-3-3 because that’s where Leao and Puli can be at their offensive best.
Had Rafa not been injured this season, he would’ve adapted better to where he is playing, and so would his team.
They are just bunch of ignorant lots, they wouldn’t let the boy be, he remains the focal point of this team and most dedicated to the success of Milan
Good, maybe we should sign Balotelli and Leao together they can wear “Why always me” shirt
It’s great to have such team unity.
if i’m the best player in a club even when being lazy & the owner/ mngmt looking only for profit (CL spot), none better & no trophy target, then what the motivation to trying harder?
It makes no sense to sell Rafa when his value is at its lowest. He was untouchable at $100M a couple of years ago, and he’s having a solid season statistically even though he’s clearly playing at less than 100% health. He’s still only 26 and is under contract until June of 2028. I wouldn’t take less than $80M for him this summer.
