Rafael Leao has expressed his pride at how the team battled despite the fact they lost 3-2 to Liverpool at Anfield last night.

Milan lost in their Champions League return despite taking a 2-1 lead just before the first-half break as the home side were simply too strong and eventually won the game by three goals to two.

Leao spoke to Milan TV after the game to give his thoughts on the defeat with his comments transcribed by MilanNews and translated below.

“We lost but I’m proud of my team because we fought until the end to find another result,” he began.

On the emotions of the Champions League: “It was a dream I had ever since I was a child to play in this competition. My team-mates and I have tried to the very end to play this match against a great team and in a great stadium. We made two mistakes and we will try not to make them again.”

On the group: “We lost but we showed the other teams and Liverpool that we can do well. It’s a difficult group but we can have our say.”

On the match against Juventus: “It will be a great match against a great team. We are Milan and we want to try to win to stay first in the standings.”
